Company Biography

Mr. Thompson, Principal, is a Golf Course Architect, Landscape Architect and Land Planner. He holds Bachelor degrees in History (Eastern Asian Studies) and Landscape Architecture, and a Master of Urban Planning degree from the University of Oregon. He is a member of the National Golf Foundation, the United States Golf Association, the American Planning Association, the American Society of Landscape Architects, and the Urban Land Institute. Over the past three decades, Mr. Thompson has served on citizen advisory boards of the cities of Eugene, Oregon, and Las Vegas, Nevada, relating to design and planning ordinances. In 1981 he was appointed to serve as a member of the Eugene, Oregon Planning Commission and served in that capacity until 1983 and on the Novato, California Planning Commission from 1989 to 1993.

Mr. Thompson, registered in California, Oregon, Washington and Nevada as a Landscape Architect, has prepared plans for a variety of golf related residential, recreational and commercial facilities. From 1983 until 1987 while on a leave of absence from Thompson-Wihlborg, Ltd., he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where he acted as Principal in Charge of Planning and Land Development for the development company of John H. Midby and Associates. Prior to his return to private practice, he developed the master plan for the new town of Laughlin, Nevada, centered around a destination resort with gaming, golf courses and housing. His experience in the Southwest has led to the development of projects that have focused on innovative golf course land planning and on water conservation through creative grasses suitable to the arid Southwest. Three decades of experience has produced site development planning and landscape architectural features for over 7,000 multiple housing units, and other mixed use projects, emphasizing golf courses. These courses range from the Southwest to the Pacific Northwest, Midwest and the Pacific Rim and focus on the blending of the sites' natural land forms to enhance the course and the proposed land uses.

His planning strategy focuses on the total problem, including environmental issues, agency constraints, public interests and economic-market forces. When combined with a coordinated office procedure, this approach to problem solving results in projects that are completed in a timely and economical manner. The success of projects designed by Mr. Thompson has led to articles in the national magazines Housing, Golf Development, Golf Digest and The Puget Sound Business Journal, and speaking engagements before the Pacific Coast Builders Conference, the Oregon Home Builders Conference, biannual Crittenden GolfExpos since 1993, and the spring 1994 USGA Green Section of Hawaii Conference on Oahu, as well as numerous golfing clubs.
